Replacing your windows in 2026: grants, performance and deadline
Efficient windows, a real gain
Replacing single glazing with double or triple glazing cuts heat loss and removes the "cold wall" effect. It's also a welcome acoustic gain.
The required performance
To be eligible, the window must reach a thermal transmittance:
- Uw ≤ 1.3 W/m².K for windows (and Sw ≥ 0.3)
The grant is calculated per window, not per m². The contractor must be RGE-certified.
Deadline to remember
From 1 September 2026, window replacement is no longer fundable as a standalone gesture. After that date it must be part of a whole-home renovation. For a single gesture, file your application before the deadline.
Our tips
- Tackle the opaque walls (walls, roof) first: changing windows before can create condensation problems.
- Require a quote explicitly stating Uw and Sw.
- Never sign before filing your grant application.
